Poker is a game of chance and skill in which players wager chips (representing money) on the outcome of the hand. Depending on the particular variant of poker being played, one or more players are required to make forced bets, usually an ante and a blind bet. These bets are placed in a common pot and remain in the pot for each betting interval.<\/p>\n
Each player is dealt two cards and then has the option to put out chips equal to the amount of the big blind (call), raise the previous bet by at least double the big blind (raise) or push their cards to the dealer face down without putting any chips in the pot (fold). This is known as the flop.<\/p>\n
Once the flop has been dealt the dealer will place three more cards on the table that are community and anyone can use (the turn). After this another betting round takes place.<\/p>\n
The highest-ranked poker hand is a royal flush, which contains the 10, jack, queen, and king of the same suit (clubs, diamonds, hearts, or spades). A straight is five cards of consecutive rank; for example, an Ace, Two, Three, Four, and Five. A flush is any five cards of the same suit. Two pair is a combination of two cards of the same rank and three unrelated side cards, such as two jacks and two sixes.<\/p>\n
It is important to play only with money you are comfortable losing. A good rule of thumb is to always play with a bankroll that you can afford to lose 200 bets in the limits of the game you are playing.
